Tennis Is Most International Of All Popular Sports

Throughout the ages, mankind has evolved new forms of sport, each one centring upon some locality which has, in time, become synonymous with the name of the particular sport concerned.

The reverse is true of lawn tennis,* which established a headquarters at the All England Club, Wimbledon, in 1874, ans from there spread like an influenza epidemic throughout the world years from its introduction as a break-away from the indoor game of rackets and real tennis, that royal and ancient game, it has become the most international of' all sports.

Today it is played in nearly every country in the world, and its clubs outnumber those of any other pastime, but none can lay greater claim to fame than the All England Club at Wimbledon, on whose centre court have been fought by the tennis giants of all aggs. The Club has survived all changes in the law as well as in the methods of the game, and on its courts the history of lawn tennis may be said to have been inscribed.
