Lively “Corpse” On Side Of Road
Yesterday some children in Domain Road were horrified to see a man lying beside a hedge apparently dead. Scared to tears, they rushed to one of their mothers and gasped out the horrible story. Mother fearfully let herself be led to the spot and, sure enough, there was the “dead” man, with his hat over his face. Was it murder? Suicide? Just collapse? The clue obviously lay under the hat. So she lifted it, gingerly. Then started back as the “corpse” sat up and wanted to know why a man couldn’t have a sleep without interfering women butting in, or words to that effect. When the explanations were completed, both he and the housewife enjoyed the joke. Apparently, waiting in his car for someone who was visiting nearby, the man had been tempted into the cool shade to rest.
