Hockey Social At Edgecumbe
All who attended the Hockey Club sponsored social held at Edgecumbe to honour Mr Ken Civil and his fiancee, Miss Pat Stewart, in view of their approaching marriage had an enjoyable evening. Dancing was to the excellent music of Bill Mundy and his orchestra. Most popular of the very enjoyable items were songs by Bill Mundy, who accompanied hffriself on the guitar. Other artists to entertain were Mr Stones, whose songs were accompanied on the piano by Mrs Stones, and Mr Crooks who played mouth organ solos. A delicious supper was supplied by the women.
Presenting Mr Civil and .Miss Stewart with a handsome chiming clock, the President of the Edgecumbe Hockey Club, Mr Marx, referred to the services Mr Civil had given in the field of hockey, not only to the Edgecumbe Club but to the whole association. Mr Henderson, on behalf of the umpires, and Mr G. Colebrook on behalf of the supporters also jspoke of Mr Civil’s unfailing enthusiasm for hockey in the district.
On behalf of the Otakiri Club, Mrs Peck presented the guests of the evening with a very nice electric kettle.
Mr Civil suitably replied. The Monte Carlo was won by Mr and Mrs Bridge, a very pleasant evening was brought to a close with the singing of Auld Lang Syne. A vote of thanks was given to the orchestra who supplied the music gratis for the occasion. Mr Hill was M.C.
