Offer Of A Drink Was Not Accepted
Although he generously offered a ' drink of beer to everyone travelling in a bus near Edgecumbe on November 11 Ngaiterangi Tahere, mill hand, Te Teko, could get nobody to accept his offer so he assaulted "Alfred George Learning, Norman Sydney Andrews and Trevor Hugh Martin in the bus. This was revealed to Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Whakatane Magistrate’s Court when Tahere was faced with three charges of assault and one of having liquor in his possession in a public omnibus. On each of the assult charges he was fined £6, costs 10s, and £2, costs £1 ,5s for having liquor in his possession.
