New International Treaty To Simplify Vehicle Travelling

A new international treaty has been drawn up to simplify vehicle travel from one country to another. Action on, the treaty was taken at the International Road .Conference held at Geneva, Switzerland, in September under the auspices of the United Nations. Representatives of 20 nations, including New Zealand, signed the treaty which supersedes the Paris ■Convention of 1926. It will be sent to the legislative bodies of the signatory countries for' ratification, The treaty is open to all nations. Under the reaty, customs formalities would be simplified, in-

cluding the use of an international customs pass for motor vehicles w' and a standard international driver’s permit. The treaty provides that the governments will recognise motoring associations as having authority to issue the international driver's permit.
