P. & T. OUTRIGHT WIN OVER TE PUKE What is considered to be a record for opening batsmen in club cricket in the Bay of Plenty was established by J. B. Rivett, who made 148 not out and R. Cleland, 49 not out, of P. and T. which had an outright win over Te Puke at Whakatane on Saturday. Between v them they knocked up 203 in 90 minutes. This contributed considerably to P. and T.’s score of 293. Te Puke in two innings could only make a grand total of 118. A fine bowling performance was put up by E. Malaquin of P. and T., who bowled all day, taking eight wickets for a total of 30 runs. Details:— P. and T. (J. B. Rivett 148 retired, R. Cleland 49 retired; Allan 3 for 58, Crowley 2 for 25) defeated Te Puke 87 (Coleman 28, M. Murray 16 not out; E. Malaquin 5 for 25, Cleland 8 for 2) and 31 , (Searle 9; Malaquin 3 for 5, Beazley 3 for 2, Cleland 3 for 15.) Outright. 1 THREE N.Z. TRIALISTS B*AT WELL Fine batting performances were put up by the three New Zealand trialists in the United Cricket Club, I. Wyatt, who made 114, M. Le Pine and W. J. McKenzie, who both made 72 each, in a club trial game at the Whakatane Domain on Saturday to select a team to challenge Te Puke for the Williams Cup.' Conditions Were ideal with a slow wicket. The A team defeated B team<by 49 runs. Details: —
A team 252 (M. Le Pine 72, W. J. McKenzie 72, D. Bull 57, G. Howard 20, N. E. Rigden 4 for 60) defeated B team 203 (I. Wyatt 114, Rigden 27, D. Carling 24, J. Howard' 3 for 6, McKenzie 3 for 29) by 49 runs on the first innings.
