Appeal Made For More Rugby Referees
An appeal for more young men and old players to take up rugby refereeing was made by Mr W. Chambers when replying to the toast of the referees at Saturday night's annual dinner of the United Rugby Football Club. More referees were wanted urgently at Whakatane and if rugby was to continue at all they would have to be found. Mr Chambers said refereeing gave old players and those barred from playing rugby a chance to keep an interest in the game. He' urged those players who were thinking of hanging up their boots next season to consider joining the Referees’ Association.
