INSURANCE MONOPOLY?

Sir, —The reported remarks of Mr Kearins, M.P. for Waimarino, on insurance questions clearly show that the Labour Party has nothing new to offer. This man is supposed to have enough intelligence to represent an electorate in Parliament. He refers to the “racket of insurance companies” and intimates that the State should have the monopoly of the “racket.” The case.quoted of a person “who from a £IOO .policy has received after all payments £1 5s and no bonus,” to a sane individual refers to some sort of industrial policy, not to a fire or accident policy. If such a form, of insurance policy does exist the Labour Government has had its opportunity to deal with it.

His sympathy with the State Fire Office in bearing the loss of the wool fire at Rongotai is wasted. He forgot to mention that the State Fire Office operates as the other insurance offices do; and lays-off or reinsures a portion of its risk elsewhere. Mr Kearins has also forgotten his old master’s slogan “You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all the people all the time.” Yours etc., ‘AGENT’. Whakatane.
