Whakatane Heads New Zealand

For a little town, Whakatane is doing pretty well in the “Tribute to R. J. Kerridge” showmanship competition being run by the Ker-ridge-Odeon chain of picture theatres. The contest lasts thirteen weeks, and is now in its seventh week. Whakatane has held top place for New Zealand one week out of the seven, and is lying in third olace now with a chance to win. The sort of thing that gets points is the bright idea of Mr A. R. Chapman who publicised “Luck of the Irish” by getting a shamrock emblazoned on every taxi in to\vn.
