Bumper Concert At Awakeri
The Awakeri Hall was filled to capacity on Wednesday night for one of the finest amateur concerts to be seen in the district for many years. From the word go the whole programme went with a swing and the large audience signified its general approval by continued applause. Several of the items caused uproarious laughter, but there were also items in more serious vein. The newly-formed Country Gilds’ Club turned on two very popular vocal numbers in a very original style. Full marks must go to Mr E. G. Anderson, who produced the show and was responsible also for the attractive stage sets. The “home-made” scenery was a most commendable effort and Awakeri is indeed fortunate in having such a talented and willing worker, who must have given up many leisure hours to achieve Wednesday night’s successful results. The chairman, Mr H .C. Carter, thanked all visiting artists and donors, also the local people who had contrived to make the huge success of this initial effort.
