Mr W. Sullivan Fires First Shot In Bay Electorate
The first election shot in the Bay of Plenty electorate was fired on Saturday night by the sitting National member and candidate, Mr W. Sullivan, when he addressed a well attended meeting of electors of Rotoiti, Rotoma and Rotoehu at Rotoiti.
Mr Sullivan, who was enthusiastically received, covered a wide field of subjects in the course of a two hours’ survey, and predicted that the policy which the National Party would present this week would win the approval of the country. Before New Zealanders again lay the choice of socialism with all its restrictions and - injustices, or the path of free enterprise, with its freedom and justice. Warning Against Rumour He warned electors to be on their guard against rumours that if the National Government were elected, there would be another depression, wages cuts and wholesale sacking of public servants. There was not an atom of truth in those canards, and they could be nailed now. On the motion of Mr S. Emery, Mr Sullivan was accorded a vote of thanks for his address.
On Monday night Mr Sullivan continued his campaign when he adressed electors at Wainui while last night he travelled on to speak at Te Kaha. Tonight he meets electors at Waihou Bay and on November 1 will hold his first election meeting at Whakatane.
