INTERNATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Sir, —Allow me to congratulate you for publishing another plea for a more conciliatory attitude towards the Russian people who, like the populace of all time, are less responsible for the strife that has darkened the pages of history, than those they trusted to lead them in the paths of peace. The “Red Carpet” cartoon in Monday’s Herald is a counter stroke by the dollar devotees, who worship at the shrine of the “Yellow God of Gold,” and pray for the power to dominate the world and compel humanites to bore down to the idols of greed. Strange to say, gold is not mentioned in Holy Writ until long after the Flood. Then we read the Jews spoiled the Egyptians and got away with a large swag of gold with Pharoa hard after them to regain it. Then comes the immortal symbol of “God versus Mammon,” the Golden Calf. Moses, in His farewell message to his people implored them to worship God instead of Mammon.
From the conquest of Palestine to the golden reign of Solomon, who built, his temple with the gold of Ophir and ceder of Tebanon, the Israelites were rich devotees of Mammon. So God forsook them and allowed them to degenerate until they committed the sacriligious act of buying the Lamb of God for slaughter with thirty pieces of silver, which sealed their doom, and caused them to become nonentities without a country despised and hated for what they possessed. The curse of aquiesitiveness still rests upon them and all who worship the material and ignore the spiritual gift of charity, which isi not an arrogant obstentatious giving (out of a questionable abundance) but a humble desire to give instead of to take—the Almighty’s greatest and best gift. That has endured from everlasting and will endure to everlasting. Yours etc., H. SERGANT.
