WEATHER MARS TANEATUA OPENING
Despite unsatisfactory weather conditions the Taneatua Bowling Club officially opened its green on Saturday for the 1949-50 playing season. The president, Mr W. Rixon, in welcoming visiting bowlers, expressed his best wishes to all present for a happy year of bowling. Games were commenced but had to be abandoned due to the inclement state' of the weather. Sunday’s Tournament The first tournament of the year was held on the Taneatua green on Sunday for the benefit of the Taneatua War Memorial funds. Prizes were donated by Messrs Goodhew, Middlemas, Steer, Dippie and Cosy Cottage Coy. The wives of thie Taneatua bowlers supplied a very appetising lunch, morning and afternoon tea. Profits of the tournament, £24 3s 3d, were duly handed over to the War Memorial Com-' mittee. The final resulted in a win for L. Berg (skip), D. Butler, C. Butler and P. Breckon from P. Smoljan (skip), C. Pearson, G. Coates and M. Merito. The score being 7-5 in Berg’s favour.
