FIRST GAMES START THIS WEEK-END

Cricket gets under way at Whakatane this week-end with games at the showgrounds and Taneatua. Although competitions will not commence until October 30 clubs are beginning practice matches early. As with last year all teams of the Whakatane sub-association, with the exception of United, will play competition games on Sunday. United intends to play outside clubs on Saturdays. . , The game at Whakatane tomorrow will be between United and Galatea and is timed to start in the morning. On Sunday at Taneatua P. and T. will meet Taneatua in an all-day match. The following Whakatane United cricket team will play Galatea tomorow at the Showgrounds, Whakatane:—

N. E. Rigden, L. R. Spring, R. Goodall, Geo. Howard, W. Parsons, D. Knightbridge, W. J. McKenzie, G. Howard, P. Howard, D. Carling, R. Gillard, I. Wyatt. All players will provide their own lunches and be on the ground at 8.45 a.m. CRICKET TEAM Taneatua to play P. and T. at Taneatua on Sunday. Players to be at ground at 9.30 a.m.:— J. Barker, J. Duffield, A. Baikie, I. Shaw, A. Green, J. Sykes, J. Ross, A. Martin, W. Carter, B. Chalmers, B. Bennett, T. Hunt.
