SINGLES & DOUBLES WON BY WHAKATANE The Matatua Table Tennis Association held a wind-up table tennis open championship tournament in the Winter Show Buildings, Whakatane, over the week-end. Players from all over the Bay took part. Most of the major prizes went to Tauranga. Results (Whakatane names first): Men: Open Singles, F. Paton beat A. Mcßride (Tauranga) 21-13, 21-14, 21-18; open doubles, F. Paton and S. Davis beat A. Mcßride and E. Kirk (Tauranga) 21-10, 21-17, 18-21, 21-14. Women: Open Singles, J. Nicholas (Tauranga) beat Miss King (Tauranga) 21-14, 21-17; open doubles, M. Nicholas and J. Nicholas (Tauranga) beat J. King and R. Potter (Tauranga) 21-18, 21-17. B Grade, Men: Wishnowsky (Rotorua) beat R. Bailey (Tauranga) 21-10, 21-14. Junior: P. Williams beat R. O’Brien 21-17, 21-10.
