GOOD OFFERING AT COMBINED BREEDS SALE
The Fifth Annual Combined Breeds Sale of pedigree Ayrshire and Jersey cattle conducted by Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd., and held at the A. and P. Showgrounds, Whakatane, last Thursday, proved a most successful offering of both breeds. The Ayrshire cattle created much interest and there was a steady demand for both males and females catalogued. A yearling heifer, Aotea Angel, bred by Mr A. H. Adams, Thornton, made the top price of the females offered, realising 32gns to the bid of Mr D. H. Shaw, Whakatane. This breeder also secured the top price of 36gns for a 2-year-old son of Ardgowan Ruthless AA out of an ROP cow, Allandale Golden Trixie, purchased by Mr F. L. Dodunski, Otakiri. A yearling bull bred by Mr Adams also made the top price in this age group realising 35gns to Mr J. Dunlop, Opotiki. Mrs S. C. Busby’s offering of one yearling and one 2-year-old bull made 30gns and 35gns to Mr R. Drabble, Manawahe, and Mr R. A. Wardlaw, Waimana, respectively. Jersey bulls offered on account of various vendors produced keen competition, particularly for 2-year-olds and the top price was 41 g'ns, with an average of 32gns for 9 2-year-old registered pedigree bulls. Six unregistered pedigree 2-year-olds averaged 23gns.
