Oil Burning Locomotives
Fifty-six railway engines have now been converted to oil-burners. The original plan provided for 77 to be converted, and it is hoped to complete the programme by the end of this year. Engines so faxcon verted comprise 18 out of the 31 K class in service, 33 Ka class, the full strength of that class, and five out of the Js. All the oil-burni-ing engines are in service in the North Island.
