HEALTH STAMPS SELL BRISKLY AT WHAKATANE
Sales of Health Stamps at Whakatane for the first two days this year were- higher than last year. The total value of stamps sold on Monday was £243 compared with £192 3s on the first day last year. In a canvas of the town, the Chamber of Commerce sold stamps to the value of £127 19s, this sum being a few pounds better than last year. At the school Miss Lawes sold stamps to the value of £l2 15s, last year’s total being' £4. i Another bright spot in the day’s sales was in the post office where relays of nurses organised by Miss Miller, the Matron of -the Hospital, conducted brisk sales throughout the day. It was here that most of the increased sales were recorded. The amount handled by the Nurses was nearly £7O. | The days sales were £27.- This is short of Whakatane’s quota but it is hoped to make additional sales this week to attain the quota. At Te Puke the first day’s sales were over double the quota. Health stamps sales at Taneatua were very brisk on the opening day of the campaign. Taneatua’s quota was £3B, based upon 4/- for each household in the district. A canvas had been made by the Post Officer-staff and by 9.15 a.m. the quota was exceeded. At 5 p.m., closing time, the total sales reached £BS 15s 6d which is over double the district’s quota. Last year the sales were £37 ss.
