Galatea Residents Farewelled
A happy crowd gathered in the Galatea School on Saturday night to enjoy the farewell' evening given to Mr and Mrs J. Young who are leaving the district shortly for Okoroire. Residents from both Murupara and Galatea came to help speed them on their way. / Music for dancing was played by Mr M. Jackson at the piano, relieved' by Mrs F. Walsh, and Mr J. Merriman on the Spanish guitar. A “Cut-throat .Monte Carlo” was
- much enjoyed by everyone and was •V won by Mrs Webb and Mr Esmond. Mrs Fanning and Mr Merriman entertained with solo items, Mrs Fannying singing “Sympathy” and Mr Merriman singing and yodelling, accompanying himself on the Spanish guitar. Mr Nicholls, who acted as M.C. for the evening, introduced Mr J. Wilson to those present so that on behalf of the local residents he might express the regret felt by all at losing Mr and Mrs Young to another district. Mr Wilson also presented them with a sum of money donated by local people as a token of their esteem. Supper and more dancing brought the evening to a,close.
