Savings Quota Not Attained At Whakatane Yet

, All postal districts in New Zealand have now reached the annual national savings objectives for the current financial year, according to advice received by' the postmaster at Whakatane, Mr C. A. Wilkes. However the annual quota at Wha- ' katane of £14,300 has not yet been attained. So far £11,949 has been deposited this year. The only office in this district to raise its quota so far is Te • Teko, which was the first in- • the whole of the Thames postal district. The total amount of deposits is £150,000 while 700 new accounts have been opened. The attainment in the twentyfourth week of the present cam- ' paign is the earliest that 100 per cent success has been achieved since the quota scheme commenced in 1941. The Dominion target of

£5,126,212 based on a weekly saving of 4/- per household is now a real.with well over half the year ' still to go. Over 22,000 new National Savings accounts have been opened since April 1, and of these over 7,000 are “group” accounts. “Group” deposits for the same period aggregate £600,000 which is striking evidence of the ever increasing popularity of this convenient method of saving.
