NO GAMES AT WHAKATANE TOMORROW There will be no rugby at Whakatane tomorrow although two Whakatane teams will be playing in other centres. Wairaka is to meet Opotiki at Opotiki for the Pile Cup. Wairaka are the holders. United juniors are to play the holders of the Shield, St. Michaels, at Rotorua. Rugby will recommence at Whakatane the following Saturday.

BAY PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ GOOD WIN

Playing bright and: open football the Bay of Plenty Primary Schools’ representative rugby team defeated Thames Valley at Paeroa on Saturday by nine points to three. Bay of Plenty’s points came from three tries, two of them being scored by the Whakatane player, Gray. Thames Valley’s points came from one penalty goal. Beside Gray the other prominent Bay players were Kingi, Oswald, and Sullivan. AWAKERI Y.F.C. RETAINS UNBEATEN RECORD Before an estimated crqwd of seventy the Awakeri jYoung Farmers’ Club rugby team kept their unbroken record of successes by defeating Otakiri by 9 points to 5. Heavy conditions and a greasy ball marred the play but it was exciting and at times amusing. Hard- > working players in securing Awakeri’s win' were W. McDonald, J. Schrido, D. Martin, J. Black, B. - Wilson and R. Newdick. Mr R. Laurie was referee.
