ST. GEORGE S CLUB OPENING ON OCTOBER 1 St. George’s Tennis Club will hold its official opening of the 1949/50 season on Saturday, October 1 when intending members and members of other clubs are cordially invited to begin playing. Inaugurated in November, 1938, the club laid a concrete court and held its initial opening the following January, the, Church Vestry

assisting financially by way of a loan. In 1941 at considerable expense the Parish Hall was moved forward to provide space for a second court, which was laid later the same year. Interest-free loans from church members made these operations possible. By the end of the 1942/43 season the club was on a sound financial footing and since then has been attended by success. For the past two seasons food parcels have been sent to the link parish in England. > In March of this year the club was granted permission by the Vestry for Sunday play between the hours of 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. A few vacancies for both women and men are still available before membership closes.
