The Twenty-seventh National Jersey Show and Sale, conducted at Hamilton last week established a new record average for this lead r ing annual sale of the breed. One hundred ' and thirty-seven New Zealand bred bulls made an aggregate of 13,8482 guineas, an average overall of over 101 guineas. The best previous average was 862- guineas recorded 12 months ago. v No less than 10 lots made prices of, or exceeding, 200 guineas, while 42 sold for prices between 100 and 199 guineas. The average on the first day was almost 100 guineas while the second day exceeded this figure by 2 guineas. Competition throughout was exceptionally keen, from probably the largest and most representative attendance of buyers yet to attend a National Sale. The first bull to come into the ring, a yearling from the Whangarei Stud of Dr G. Walker made 260gns, while from the same consignment shortly afterwards was sold the First Day Junior Champion at 300gns. This breeders’ entry of seven yearlings made the remarkable average of 181gns. The top price of the sale was 310 gns, realised almost at the end of the catalogue, for the 6 year old Taranaki Show bull Gian Dwr Zenith, winner of the Second Day Grand Championship. Other noteworthy realisations were Atkinson Bros., Inglewood (3 lots average 195gns); S: H. and R. dagger, Papakura (3 lots including First Day Grand Champion average 142£gns); Mrs Corlett and Son, Inglewood (3 lots average 139gns); Bryant and Sons, Mangatainoka (7 lots average 124gns); C. Clemow, Stratford (3 lots average 112gns); A. H. Finlay, Rotorua (4 lots average 103 gns). The 137 sold, comprised 96 yearlings which averaged 99gns; 29 two year old average 95gns; and 12 three" year olds and over average 129gns. Of the imported Jersey Island bred bulls catalogued, all three were disposed of by. private treaty, Jester of Highfield going to Mr M. Wallace, Kaitaia at 500gns, while the well known Waikato breeder, Mr W. H. Miers was the purchaser of Louise’s Draconian. The sale was conducted by Wright, .Stephenson and Co. Ltd.
