STORMY MEETING DECIDES TO PLAY SUNDAY CRICKET

Competition games of the Whakatane Cricket Association are to be played this year on Sunday, as was the case last year, it was decided at the annual meeting of the Association on Tuesday night following a lengthy, and at times, stormy discussion on the subject. The whole question of Sunday play took up the time of the meeting and was adopted only after a vote had been taken.

Part of the discussion became very animated with delegates from the country clubs emphasising their great difficulty of fielding teams on Saturday. Delegates from the Whakatane United Club urged that competition cricket be played on Saturday as was done in other centres. When the motion was put to the vote competition cricket for Sunday was carried by a majority. Officers elected: — Patron, Mr W. Howat; president. Mr N. R. Rigden; secretary, Mr F. Whitcher; auditor, Mr H. G. Warren; committee, two delegates from each club; selector, Mr V. Marx.
