Maori Name Not Wanted
A protest against the use of the Maori name for Edgecumbe is to be made by the Edgecumbe Progressive Association to the New Zealand Geographical Society. This was decided at the annual meeting of the Association. It was considered that Captain Cook had actually christened the district Edgecumbe and it should be called by that name.
