New Health Stamp Has Attractive Design In Blue

The 1949 Health Stamps have arrived at Whakatane. This year is the 21st year in which the stamps have been used and a fine issue has been prepared to mark the occasion. The lid stamp is green but the 3d is a bright blue, of a shade which has never been used before in New Zealand stamps. The nearest approach was, perhaps, the 1931 Health Stamp now known as the “Blue Boy.” This stamp with its companion stamp the “Red Boy” are now sought after by stamp collectors at £5 each.

For this issue the stamps are printed in sheets of 120. There is no plate number, but a serial number appears twice on each sheet on adjacent blocks. Each sheet has six holes perforated in it and one of these holes has a square printed round it. The centre line of the sheet is marked by two arrow heads and the value of the sheet is printed in the top right corner. These are the details which are so much sought after by Philatelists. The stamps will be on sale on October 3.
