Whakatane D.H.S. War Memorial To Be Completed Soon
At its meeting last week the Executive of the Whakatane ParentTeacher Association decided on an effort to complete this year the School’s War Memorial. The names of the ex-pupils of the school who made the supreme sacrifice in the 1914/1918 war are recorded on a memorial plaque affixed to the school’s flag-pole. On account- of additions to the buildings the latter is no longer in a central position, and has to be repaired anyway on account/of defects.
The executive considers that this would be a suitable time to have the memorial completed by adding a plaque containing the names of those ex-pupils who fell in World War 11, and matching the one already in position. The names of the ex-pupils concerned are fairly certain to be in the district list appearing on the Anzac Day order of service, but should any not be there included relatives are asked to advise the Headmaster. The Association will shortly launch an appeal for funds to .carry out the project.
