Unless the. consumption of electricity in the borough is kept within the weekly quota more drastic action is to be taken so that no extra .j. power is used,. the Whakatane Borough Council was informed in a let- \ ter received from the Bay of Plenty 7 Power Board at the ''monthly meet- •» ing on Monday night. The Board was being kept "strictly within it’s allocation and the Borough would foe required to do so also, the letter added. The consumption at Whakatane at present was not too good, the Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry, said when discussing the letter. To avoid any possible cuts it was now up to the people to keep their consumption down. Cr W. Sullivan said he thought that no cuts should be introduced at present. The Council; should carry on as it has been lately. , ,

Mr Barry agreed, but pointed out that the whole situation now depended upon the people. They would have to keep consumption down if cuts were to be avoided.
