New Directory For Bay Of Plenty

With the established and developing community of interest between the Bay of Plenty and Rotorua districts now being reflected in the volume of telephone traffic between these areas, it is proposed to introduce a new telephone directory to be called “Bay of Plenty and Rotorua- Districts”, announced the Post-master-General (Mr Hackett). The new directory will contain subscribers’ listings for Katikati, Matata, Opotiki, Tauranga, Taneatua, Te Teko, Te Puke, Waimgna and Whakatane, at present listed in the Thames directory, and all those exchanges at present listed in the Rotorua directory, namely Rotorua, Mamaku, Putaruru, Repcroa and Taupo.

Statistics in toll traffic between the Bay of Plenty and Rotorua districts confirm the existence of a strong community of interest. The development of the timber industry and the opening up of land between Taupo and the Bay of Plenty will, it is considered, further strengthen this interest.

The changes proposed will not take effect until the 1950 directories are published.
