AWAKERI Y.F.C. WINS CHALLENGE MATCH A strong rugby challenge from the Wainui Y.F.C. was unsuccessful against Awakeri Y.F.C. at Awakeri last week-end. • The match was watched by a fairly large crowd of enthusiastic supporters. Although it was Awakeri’s first run together they combined well to defeat the challengers by 14 points to 6. BAY PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ TEAM SELECTED Five Whakatane and two Rangitaiki players were selected at trials at Whakatane yesterday to play in the Bay of Plenty Primary Schools’ representative rugby team, which is to meet Thames Valley primary schools at Paeroa on September 17. The following are the players selected:— R. Oswald, K. .Grey, J. Howard, J. Butler, B. Slipper (Whakatane), B. Sullivan, G. Parkinson (Rangitaiki), A. Tawhai, P. Edwards, P. Davis, T. Toni (Qpotiki), M. Te Mona (Te Puke), ~W. Ware, A. Wright, D. Gibb (Tauranga), S. Kingi, T. Morgan, H. Kemeta, K. Wharerau, Te Tonihi (Rotorua). . BRACKEN CUP GAMES FOR TOMORROW Two senior rugby games for the Bracken Cup and one junior match for the Wilson Cup will be played at Whakatane Field tomorrow. Both senior games are at 2.45 p.m. At Taneatua a friendly game with an outside club has been arranged by Taneatua seniors. The draw:— Seniors: Wairaka v United, No. 1 field at 2.45 p.m.; Poroporo v Paroa. No. 2 field at 2.45 p.m. Juniors: United v Taneatua.
