SUCCESSFUL SEASON NOW ‘ CLOSING The hockey season now drawing to a close has been a very successful and keenly contested one. Forty-one teams were nominated for competitions and for the first time competitions were arranged in grades, A Grade, B Grade and Juniors. The last competition games were held last week-end, and so even were the teams that at the end of the game only one championship winner has been found. Following are the points:—

A Grade: Women, Poronoro 22, Te Teko 22, Matata 19, Rovers 13, Paroa 11, Wairaka 6. Men, Wanderers 21, Riverslea 20, Rovers 19, Poroporo 15, Richmond 13, Wairaka 8. B Grade: Women, Winners first 'competition Poroporo. Men, First competition Poroporo. Women, Second competition, East Section, Poroporo 10, Taneatua 7, .Paroa 2, Wayfarers 0. Men, Poroporo 9, Taneatua 8, Paroa 3, Wayfarers 0. West Section, Women, Huimai 8, Richmond 8, Rangers 4, Otakiri 3, Te Teko 3, Huimai B 2. Men, Te Teko 8, Rangers 5, Otakiri 4, Huimai 3, Matata 0. 1 A summary of competitions follow:

A Grade: Women, Poroporo 22, Te Teko 22. Men, Awakeri Wanderers, winners.

B Grade, East Section: Women, Poroporo, section winners. Men, Poroporo 9, Taneatua 8 (1 game to play). West Section: Women, Richmond 8, Huimai A 8. Men, Te Teko, section winners.

Fixtures for play-offs and finals will be advertised at a later date.

Apart from these fixtures the Association will finish the season with a full day’s knock-out tournament next Sunday with 30 A and B Grade teams competing. The Umpires’ Association will also play their Annual Challenge match and the day will conclude with the annual 75yard championship sprints. Co-operation and support of the St John’s Ambulance, Red Cross and Whakatane Hockey Umpires’ Association throughout the whole season has been greatly appreciated and the thanks of all officials and players are extended to them, for their unselfish and generous help.
