Land Donated For Otakiri Sports Field By Mr R. J. Barton
The area of land which has been donated to the people of Otakiri by Mr R. J. Barton will be large enough for a full football field, two hockey fields and four tennis courts as well as providing ample space for cricket and athletics, said Mr R. W. Dunning, secretary of the committee which has been set up to control the taking over of the land, to th*> Beacon. As it will be used mainly for sport most of the work-iir'form-ing and maintaining the/ground will be the responsibility of the local sports clubs. Mr Dunning said ithat it was intended to call a’public meeting soon and to place the whole business before the people of Otakiri. It had been suggested that the land should be vested in an association representing all the people of the district and be kept for their use for all time.
