Thornton W.I. Has Large Crowd To Birthday Party

There was a large gathering to the fourth birthday party of the Thornton Women’s Institute presided ovbr by Mrs D. Branch and held this week. Songs were present-* ed by the Glee Club and duets were sung by Mesdames Tooke and Fisher. The celebration was a true social affair and a novelty game arranged by Mrs Sheat and a musical competition by Mrs C. Smith, won by Mrs Hill, proved very, popular. Other amusing games and items Were held.and Mrs Gordon won the funny hat competition. Decorated with four candles the iced birthday cake was an attraction and was cut by Mrs Withy. Competition results:—

Table centre, Mrs Tennon 1, Mrs Gardner 2; fancy cakes, Mrs D. Branch 1, Mrs Robb 2; best vegetable, Mrs Sheat 1, Mrs Farr 2; best flower, Mrs Farr 1, Mrs Phillips 2.
