Rangitahi Defeats Ruatoki School In Rugby & Basketball

Although sending strong teams in the annual inter-school rugby and basketball games against Rangitahi, Murupara, last week, the Ruatoki Maori District School was • unable to win any of the matches although it drew in the two basketball games. Over 100 children attended the sports, which were witnessed by a very large crowd. The Ruatoki visitors were received w r ith a traditional Maori welcome-. The speakers for Murupara were Kanohi and Turanga and for Ruatoki Heremana. The theme of the speeches was the value of education to Maori youth, 'with emphasis on facility in the use of English. Children of both school entertained with action songs before the sports meeting ended. The matches resulted:— Basketball: Primary, Rangitah’j £, Ruatoki 5. Secondary. Rangitahi 7, Ruatoki 7. Football: Primary,- Rangitahi 24, Ruatoki 0. Secondary, Rangitahi 31, Ruatoki 0.
