CHALMERS-BENNET WEDDING WAS BIG TANEATUA EVENT

The choral service was a feature of the marriage of Maureen Anne, daughter of Mr and Mrs G. Bennet,. of Taneatua, to Brian Chalmers, son of Mrs E. M. Matchett, of Awaked, Rev. J. C. J. Wilson, Vicar of Whakatane, officiating.

Petite Miss Bennet made a charming picture as she entered the church on the arm of. her father. Her gown was of heavy brocaded satin in an ivory shade. The bodice was fitting and buttoned at the back from the neck to the waist with tiny self-covered buttons, and the rounded yoke was defined with ruching which also edged the sweeping train. The long sleeves, also buttoned, formed a point over, the backs of the hands. Attached to the head by a coronet of orange blossom the lovely embroidered veil formed a second train. She carried a beautiful bouquet of irises, winter roses and hyacinths. Attending the bride as maid was her sister, Miss Kitty Bennet, who wore a frock of ice green satin made on slim fitting lines. It had an off-the-shoulder neckline with a bertha collar caught with rows of silver sequins. She wore a Juliet cap made of the same material as her frock and trimmed with silver sequins. Long gloves were worn and a necklet (the gift of -the bridegroom) completed the ensemble. A striking note of colour was provided by her bouquet of red anemones and carnations. The two small flower girls, Jill Bennet, sister of the bride, and Marina Matchett, neice of the bridegroom, looked very attractive in long frocks of daffodil marquisette made with tucked bodices and buttoned to the waist at the back. They wore Juliet caps of the same material as their frocks and trimmed with gold sequins. Each carried a silver basket of flowers in mauve tonings. Mr Martin Matchett carried out the duties of best man. The church had been decorated with white and yellow flowers by friends of the bride and each pew was adorned with bows of white ribbon and bunches of flowers and greenery.

A reception for a large number of friends and relations of the bride and bridegroom was held in the Taneatua Hall, where the guests were received by Mr and Mrs Bennet and Mrs Matchett. Mrs Bennet wore a smart suit of light wool in a burgundy shade with hat to match. She had a shoulder spray in mauve tonings. Mrs Matchett was in a frock of black trimmed with white braid, a fur coat With black hat and accessories and -a shoulder spray of rose coloured cyclamen. - A very delicious buffet luncheon was enjoyed by the guests, after which the usual toasts were honoured, Mr Wilson . being the toastmaster and carrying out his duties in a most efficient manner. The handsome three tiered cake was cut while the best man read a large number of congratulatory telegrams. At the invitation of Mr and Mrs Bennet guests later visited their home to see the large number of beautiful gifts on display there. For travelling the bride chose a smart frock of powder blue crepe trimmed with braid of a darker blue. She wore a black hat and black accessories.

Mr and Mrs Chalmers left by car for their honeymoon. They will make their home at Awakeri.
