A.T.C. Week-End Camp Here At End Of Next Week
A week-end camp of Air Training Corps Cadets is to be held at Whakatane on August 6 and 7 when cadets from Matamata, . Tauranga, Rotorua, Gisborne and Whakatane will be present with the total strength expected to be over 80. The cadets will carry out combined training exercises, and compete for several shooting trophies. Cadets will be attending the basketball dance in the Winter Show Hall on the Saturday night, at which Group Captain Cald.er and Squadron Leader Murray will present to No. 59 Squadron, Tauranga, the Sir Charles Kingsford Smith Memorial Trophy for all-round efficiency.
The cadets range in age from 17 to 22, and many of the senior cadets have up to 50 hours flying to their credit. This camp has been run at Whakatane each year since 1947, and has proved extremely popular.
