CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP TO W. C. DAVIES

Clay Bird Shooting

The Whakatane County Rod and Gun Club held its half yearly Club Championship shoot last week-end in fine though dull- weather. There was a fair attendance of shooters present, and the shooting was not quite up to the usual standard, although some good individual performances were registered. The principal event on the programme, the Lodge Cup, and with it the Club Senior Championship, resulted in a very popular win for Mr W. C. Davies.

The President, Mr J. D. Rivett, in congratulating Mr Davies on his fine performance in winning the championship, alluded to the fact that he had won on a previous occasion and been three times runnerup. The president also congratulated Mr Davies on his recent re-elec-tion to the North Island Executive of the New Zealand Gun Clubs’ Association at the annual meeting held at Hamilton. It was certainly a fitting tribute to the work which Mr Davies had carried out for the benefit of shooters during the past year that he had been one of the fiv delegates from all parts of the North Island elected to the Executive, and the Club was proud to have him as their repfesentative and champion. The second hightlight of the day’s shooting was the great performance of the Club Patron, Mr Howat, in winning the Veterans’ Tankard after a shoot-off with Mr W. Kenyon, Mr Howat breaking 10 targets ’in succession.

Mr C. L. Hudson’s trophy was won by Mr J. McLeod, of Te Puke, who is a very consistent attender at all club shoots. Results in detail:—•
