ARCHERY CLUB’S FIRST OUTDOOR SHOOT TRAINING

A most enjoyable day was spent by members of the Whakatane Archery Club last Sunday. Although the weather looked threatening and was not all that was desired, attendance for the Club’s first outdoor shoot was good. Pending . decision to use public grounds, the Club was favoured by the offer of Mrs E. Biggins to use her property. This was greatly appreciated. Bright, colourful targets, set out on a carpet of green, were a sight to catch the eye. The shooting was conducted over a 30 yards range, till noon. Then gradually worked back to 60 yards, and as the day was more or less of an instructive nature, all members were pleased with their scoring results. To top off the day a clout shoot, which is always spectacular was arranged, and shooting in this event was of a very high standard. So high in fact that Aub Wiggins had to be restrained from wanting to clean up all the shags hovering the river bank, to say nothing of Mrs Biggins’s Muscovy ducks. Mr R. Hunter, Field Captain, expressed sincere appreciation on behalf of the Club to Mrs Biggins for her fine gesture which enabled the Club to hold their first outdoor shoot. Thanks were also extended to Messrs A. Wiggins and F. Hunter for transporting the gear. Monday Night’s Shoot

There was another good muster of archers in the Winter Show Building for the indoor shoot on Monday night and competition rang, ed high. Although some members were handicapped owing to lack of equipment yet to arrive, scoring was taken for the first time and was very creditable. “Taffy” headed the list with very consistent scoring and archers are advised to follow his lead—concentration while shooting and plenty of practice. Details of scoring:—

A. Atkinson 630, R. Hunter 529, J. Hunter 492, F. Hunter 459, E. Heslop 415, A. Wiggins 394, G. Powley 349, D. Dahl 291, J. Lynds 270, R. Stokes 266, D. Powley 215.
