Successful Season Is Predicted For Ohope Bowling Club
Last month the Ohope Bowling Club held its second annual meeting which was well attended and presided over by the President, Mr R. Murray. In his report the president referred to the healthy state of the club’s finances. Mr A. Millar, as owner of the green, was complimented by members for the wonderful playing surface that he had provided and said it would be safe to predict that before long his green will be recognised as one of New Zealand’s best. Several tournaments were held during the season, with players parcicipating from all parts of the Bay of Plenty, while there were playing visitors from all over New Zealand. All were most complimentary about the new green.
To encourage membership from the younger generation of the district it was decided to have a small membership subscription from them and that there would readily be available sufficient coaching to help them acquire bowling fever. Officers elected were:—
Patron, Mr J. Patterson; president, Mr H. Armstrong; secretary, Mr R. B. Gerring; vice-president, Mr P. Parr; management committee, Messrs H. Steers, F. Gerring, J. McCowan, T. Anstis and G. Head; coach and green superintendent, Mr W. Harris.
