Explosion Wrecks Workman’s Hut
About 10 o’clock Sunday night a workman’s hut on the land development scheme at Thornton caught fire and was blown to pieces by an 'explosion, presumably caused by gelignite stored in it. Fortunately the man who lives there, Mr Katovich, was away at the time. Noticing the fire, neighbours, Mrs Reynolds and her daughter, Miss Heather Reynolds, had gone over to see if they could help and were quite close when the explosion occurred, spreading iron and burning debris over a wide area. Miss Reynolds received burns on the legs, but was not seriously injured.
