WILL IT EVER HAPPEN HERE?
“If we get this cold weather in the weeks ahead, we will probably use up some of these units we have in hand. We hope
so, anyway.” Believe it or not, that was a local body. member talking about the power position. But not here. That was Mr J. A. Steele, acting-chair-man at a meeting of the Auckland Power Board. Funny position up there. The Board’s rationing scheme has been so successful that it now has to seek a market for the surplus. It’s this way, according to the New Zealand Herald:
The board is not only a vendor; it is also a consumer of electricity. If it ends the year with a large surplus of units on hand, the Government might find a good excuse for saying that Auckland would not need so much power in 1950 as in previous years, and that other areas deserved increases -at its expense.
