Dressmaking Tutor For Whakatane
At the Whakatane -WJ.’s July meeting a letter from the Co-Ordin-ating Committee stated that it would be possible to secure the services of a dressmaking tutor, provided there were sufficient pupils. These services are not confined to W.I. members. Thanks were extended to all who had assisted at the Winter Show, either as stewards or with the Court and Stall.
The meeting decided that two shrubs be donated to the Beautifying Society at the August meeting. Continuing the Golden Thread, Mrs Stewart described the City of Edinburgh—the old and the new. A demonstration, puff pastry, given by Mrs Carter, proved very instructive.
Mrs L. King entertained with a humorous reading and the Glee with two items.
The collection of soap for the Link Institute was well responded to, and an appeal on behalf of the Institute for the Blind resulted in £4 being collected. Arrangements were made for a bus to leave the Rock for the Drama Festival at Taneatua next Tuesday and Wednesday. Competition results: Embroidered square, Mrs Larsen 1, Mrs' Comer 2; onions, Mrs-Hanham 1, Mrs Wallace 2; parsnips, Mrs Whittle 1, Mrs Larsen 2. * Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Guest, Guptill, Hannah, Haultain, Hawken, Hay, Hellyer, Helliwell and Hirst.
