Eastern Bay W.I. Federation

Mrs McCallion presided at an executive meeting of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Federation of Women’s Institutes held in the Borough Council Chambers, Whakatane, yesterday. Mrs Stewart reported on the courts held at the Winter Show and Mrs McCallion congratulated Whakatane on gaining first prize with their court. Mrs Grey reported that she had not received any information in regard to dressmaking classes, but would answer queries from Institutes as soon as information was available. Remits for the Dominion Council meeting were discussed and voted on. As Mrs Caverhill is unable to attend the Dominion Council meeting, the appointment of Mrs McCallion to attend in her place was approved. The annual report, financial report and balance sheet were received from the Dominion Federation. An invitation was received from the Opotiki Institute to attend a banquet to celebrate their 21st birthday on August 18. Mrs Mayo spoke on the, forthcoming drama festival, and it was decided to present the winning plays at Edgecumbe and Waimana, dates to be announced at the Drama Festival.
