Evening Meeting At Taneatua
A brightly burning-fire added to the comfort of members when they met for the July meeting of the Taneatua W.I. on Monday evening. Mrs Grey presided over a good attendance. There was one new member.
Arrangements for furniture and catering for the Drama Festival to be held at Taneatua next week were finalised. The roll call, “Cure for the blues,” brought forth a number of ideas ranging from a “wee biftie” gossip either over the telephone or in person to a tune on the old mouth organ with a spot of gardening proving the favourite chaser of old man gloom. Mrs McGougan gave the Golden Thread, her poet being Robert Burns. She recited a poem by . Robert Burns in real Scots dialect and this was most enjoyable. A demonstration on wreath-mak-ing was given by Mrs Bennett, who displayed a partly completed wreath and then passed the wired flowers round to members who displayed much interest.
A competition, Guessing the identities of childhood photographs, was arranged by Mrs McDonald and won by Mrs Bennett and Mrs K. Tebbutt.
A quiz was held with a team of five being quizzed by Mrs Grey. The evening ended on a hilarious note with the acting of charades. Competition results: Soft toy, Mrs Frost I, Mrs Grey 2, Mrs Lawn 3; jam tart, Mrs Grey 1, Mrs Torrie 2, Mrs K. Tebbutt 3; best vegetable, Mrs Butler 1, Mrs Bennett 2, Mrs Torrie 3; best flower, Mrs Torrie 1, Mrs Laird 2, Mrs McGougan 3.
