LARGE GATHERING ATTEND FAREWELL TO MR A. THOMSON

A very • large crowd of friends gathered at the Central Theatre, Edgecumbe, on s Thursday to farewell Mr and Mrs Alex Thomson and family. Mr G. McDonald, Cambridge, president of the New Zealand Veterinarian Association,' and his wife were among the guests.

On arrival Mr and Mrs Thomson and children were piped into the hall by Piper K. Ferguson, where they were welcomed by Mrs S. C. Spence and Mr J. Nielson. Mrs Spence presented Mrs Thomson with an apricot shaded shoulder spray, which showed to advantage on her black velvet gown.

Mr F. Burt was M.C. and his orchestra supplied the music for dancing and also the Caledonian Pipe Band.

Mr J. Nielson, chairman, introduced the speakers, and presented a very fine crystal water set, and inscribed silver tray, a cheque and a fountain pen each for the children. Mr A. K. Prince, on behalf of the Opouriao Valley farmers, gave Mr Thomson a cheque. Mr J. S. Bolt, chairman of the R.P.D. Co, Ltd. Staff Social Committee, presented a set of cutlery. Mr D. Murray, Assistant Veterinarian, was also farewelled. The speakers were:— Mr S. C. Spence for directors and suppliers of the R.P.D. Coy. Ltd.; Mr A. K. Prince,- Opouriao Dairy Coy. Ltd. and suppliers; Mr G. McDonald, president, New Zealand Veterinarian Association; Mr J. S. Bolt, R.P.D. Coy. Staff Committee. Items were given by Miss Joyce Miller, Shean Trubhias; Mr R. H. Plauseler, humorous drawings; W. P. Tyssen, conjurer; Mr E. G. Anderson, cello solos; Edgecumbe Women’s Institute Choir.
