2,035 Dogs Registered With 452 dogs registered during June a total of 2,035 have been registered in the Whakatane County in 1949. The fees paid are £564 10s. Sheep Worrying at Ruatoki
A case of sheep worrying at Ruatoki was investigated by the county inspector last month and two dogs were found to be causing the trouble. One was registered and the other had been brought into the district from Ngakura. 33 Horses Impounded Driving, pound and sale fees collected during June in the county totalled £32 6s. Thirty-three horses and 20 cattle were impounded or removed from roads in the Waimana, Opouriao, Poroporo, Paroa, and Te Teko districts.
Application For Main Highway Application to have the Tane-atua-Awakeri road made a main highway is to be made by the council. There has been an increase in traffic over the road and it is believed that the application has some possible chance of success. Heavy Traffic Licences Twenty-one heavy traffic licences valued at £lO5 11s 6d were registered last month making a total, of 249 taken out in the county so far this year at a value of £2277 7s 6d. This compares favourably with 239 taken out over the same period last year valued at £2059 19s 4d. More Drivers’ Licences
A good steady flow of applications have been made to the county inspector for driver’s licences. During last month 755 were issued, a total of 1,677 for the year for a value of £407 ss. This is more than the 1,470 issued for the same period last year when £407 5s was collected.
