Midget Cow Was Milked On The Table
Farmer Jimmy Reddall, of Pateley Bridge, Yorkshire, lifts his prize cow on to a table before milking her. It is handiest that way because Reddall stands six feet two inches, and the cow three feet two inches at her shoulder.
When Reddall showed the midget cow at the British Dairy Farmers’ Association exhibition at London’s Olympia the committee would not let him stand the cow on a table, so Reddall had to sit on the straw beside her.
Despite Reddall’s discontented mutterings, the cow, which was the smallest in the show, gave a daily yield of four gallons of milk (about a gallon more than the usual run of cows). She belongs to a breed which is believed to be derived from the nuggety Kerries of South-western Ireland.
