COUNTRY POWER RESTRICTIONS MAY BE EASED SOON
Power restrictions may be eased slightly in the country areas in the very near future, according to Mr Yeoman, member of the Bay of Plenty Power Board, who attended a meeting of the Taneatua Progressive League on Tuesday evening and gave a most informative talk on the whole subject of restrictions. He said the Board was waiting to see how the quota rationing system worked in other districts and, if it were proven satisfactory, would probably apply it. Mr R. S. Ricketts presided over the meeting, which was well attended. Mr W. M. Clark, riding member of the County Council, Mrs Clark and Mr Yeoman attended by invitation.
It was reported that a State housing officer was in Taneatua last week and, after an inspection of conditions under which some families were living, expressed his astonishment that such conditions obtained in Taneatua. There was every hope that a State housing scheme would be started in the near future if tenders came forward when called for. A total of sixteen had signed a request for State houses.
St John Ambulance A letter was received asking for assistance in forming a .St John Ambulance Brigade in Taneatua. Mr Yeoman offered to bring the matter forward at the next meeting of the Young Farmers Club in the hope that they will be interested, after which it will be referred back to the Progressive League
Station Waiting Room In reply to a previous letter, the stationmaster at Taneatua advised that a waiting room was available at the station, but there were no heating arrangements. It was decided to ask that the room be heated for the use of train passengers. Water Supply
It was decided to ask Mr C. H. Brebner, County engineer, through the County Council, for a report on the position as regards a water supply for the township. It is felt that in cases of fire particularly a good water supply is most necessary.
First Aid Supplies It was reported that first aid supplies, stretcher, splints, etc. were located at Nurse Ward’s residence and were obtainable in cases of accident.
Footpaths In reply to a questioner Mr Clark stated that at the present time it was against the law to .use cement for such purposes even if it were available. It is evident from the increasing interest being taken in the Progressive League that the body is filling a long-felt need. Residents of the township and district who may have constructive ideas for improvements to be effected or complaints of services etc. in the district will be welcomed at the meetings and will be given every opportunity of bringing their ideas forward.
