Power Consumption Decreases Slightly
The consumption of power at Whakatane has been slowly decreasing for the last fortnight, according to. figures from the electricity department. For the period ending June 12 Whakatane was allocated 68,788 units but the amount consumed was 74,060 units, an increase for the week of 7.6 per cent compared with 9.4 per cent for the previous week. However the consumption for the year to date shows an increase of 7.102 per cent as against 7.07 per cent up to the end of last week. Electricity officials said there were indications that more people were trying to conserve power at Whakatane, but they stressed the fact that a very much bigger saving was needed yet before the town would be off the danger list.
