’DROME S SEEN BY OFFICER OF AIR MINISTRY

Whakatane’s came a step nearer when an officer of the Civ? Aviation Branch, Air Ministry, Wellington, Mr D. R. Bagnall, inspected the recommended site together with members of the Whakatane Combined Aerodrome Committee. After a full inspection Mr Bagnall indicated that he was particularly impressed with the land and said it had possibilities. The site chosen is a portion of Crown Land on the north west side of the Whakatane Golf Links. Mr Bagnall indicated that the location and the type of country appeared suitable, but he pointed out that before anything definite could be done extensive meteorological data as to wind velocity and visibility would be required. This would all have to be taken over a six months period. It would then be known in what way the aerodrome could be laid out. Before leaving yesterday afternoon Mr Bagnall said that the committee would probably receive a report on his findings. Mr Bagnall is at present surveying all aerodromes in the "North Island.
